Great antenna (and basic physics lesson)

Date:December 29, 2010
This is a nice antenna if your set-top antenna isn't doing the job, but you don't want to put up a big mast/tower. It's not going to get everything that a tower would pull in, but great for the suburbs.
In response to Tim's comment regarding HD antennas - Tim, speaking as a physicist I can tell you that there is no difference between "regular" and "HD" antennas. Antenna design has everything to do with the frequency on which a signal is being broadcast/received, and nothing to do with the *content* of that signal. It doesn't matter if the signal contains standard or HD programming.
HD broadcasts in Canada and the US occur on the UHF frequency bands. So any antenna designed to receive UHF frequencies will do the trick. It comes down to the quality of the antenna and amplifier design, *not* whether it's an "HD" antenna or not. All the marketing in the world can't change basic antenna physics.
Digital televisions also include "error correction" capabilities - if a signal is missing some data, the TV can reconstruct the missing information using math. It's likely that Don's new antenna was strong enough to pull in some new digital channels - just enough that his TV was able to get a usable signal and display them properly.
Analog channels don't have any form of error correction, so you get what you get.

Works well in the right spot.

Date:March 2, 2009
I'm in an 8th floor apartment, with a clear view of the CN Tower, but I still had trouble getting good reception until I found just the right spot. It works great now (20 channels), and maybe all the concrete and steel in my building affects it.

Be careful

In response to Don, I think it's important to remember that it's an HDTV antenna that may not be able to bring in analog at all. You would still want to hooked up to regular rabbit ears for the local analog CKWS/CBC not digital until 2011/12

Good for Digital Channels

Date:October 10, 2008
This antenna did an excellent job of bringing in the digital channels from Watertown once it was installed outside on the roof of my home in downtown Kingston. For analog channels it was not much better than my old rabbit ears antenna.
